My great grandmother lived in Blackburn, England. She and her husband had 12 children. The husband and wife and most of the children worked in the cotton mills there. Inexplicably, when their youngest child was 5 years old, she sailed to youngest children, left her husband and 6 older children in Blackburn, and sailed to the U.S., landing in Rhode Island. Were those left behind meant to join her at a later date, or was it a permanent separation? If it was a permanent parting, did she ever go back to see her other children? And why the separation in the first place? It will forever be a mystery we'll never know the answer to, darn it.
