The Bassic Baby Carrier

18 October 2019

The bass helicon makes a brassy big noise,
yet blown soft and sweet it can be a great joy.

But when stuffed with a child
the sound's much reviled,

 as the music's too muted
       and the cries just annoy.

This postcard of an unknown babe
and its helicon player father,
or grandfather or even uncle,
is part of my continuing series
on babies used as tuba mutes.

For more on the subject read:

Another Tuba Baby
or
Tuba Babies.

I think it may be the same kid.

This is my contribution to Sepia Saturday
where babies ride free all weekend.

Awe, he's so cute...though his sounds probably are more along gurgles and cries, not at all mute!

The baby in the tuba is priceless. Great post.

Hilarious post...as are your others about babies as tuba mutes. Of course the flip side of this is adults (whether parents or collateral relatives) proudly weaving the new baby into the band, albeit in a unique and ephemeral role. Well done!
