This is a blog about music, photography, history, and culture.
These are photographs from my collection that tell a story about lost time and forgotten music.

More Season's Greetings from Old Wien

18 December 2025

'Tis the season to be merry and bright,

To be cordial and cheerful,

To be charitable and kind,

To be generous oand caring,

And most of all
to be grateful and glad.

Season's Greetings
from Olde Wien!

Wishing everyone
the best love and joy
for the New Year!
Mister Mike.

These holiday illustrations are the work of one of my favorite artists, Fritz Schönpflug ( 1873 – 1951), an Austrian artist who created hundreds of clever, humorous caricatures of Viennese and Austrian life in the early 1900s. All the cards date from before the First World War, about 1907 to 1912. The  last three picture are from the same postcard series celebrating a nostalgic 18th century past. The first two are from other series following with the same idea. The greetings in three languages—German, Dutch, and French—show how popular his picture postcards were throughout Europe.

This my contribution to Sepia Saturday
Just as Winter always swings into Spring
let us hope that 2026
brings our world
true peace, hope, and love.
